Traveler’s Guide to Nursing and Allied Health: Top Children’s Hospitals

The 17th annual U.S. News & World Report Best Children’s Hospitals rankings are out, and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center came in first place. Boston Children’s Hospital, Texas Children’s Hospital, Houston, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and Children’s National Hospital, Washington, D.C., round out the Top 5. The rankings are intended to assist parents when choosing a facility for their child. U.S. News also ranked the top 50 medical centers in 10 specialties, including pediatric cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, and diabetes and endocrinology. Cincinnati ranked No. 1 for pediatric cancer, neonatology, and urology.

  10. Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, Baltimore, Maryland

 

Rankings were based on data submitted through a clinical survey sent to approximately 200 hospitals nationwide. North Carolina-based research and consulting firm RTI International administered and analyzed the surveys. Facilities were ranked based on the quality of clinical outcomes (maximizing survival after complex surgeries and minimizing complications), efficient coordination of care (complying with protocols and other best practices and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion), and providing care-related resources (ample staffing and outpatient programs).

 

Children’s hospitals were also ranked the best for their region. Children’s Hospital Los Angeles was first place for the Pacific region, while Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia took the top spot in the Mid-Atlantic, and Children’s Hospital Colorado was No. 1 for the Rocky Mountain region.
