As communities worldwide unite to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8, female owners and CEOs are making great strides in the U.S. staffing industry. The number of women owners and CEOs in staffing rose by more than 20 percent in the past two years, according to a recent survey by the Women Business Collaborative with help from the American Staffing Association, National Association of Personnel Services, Staffing Industry Analysts, and TechServe Alliance.
Survey Findings
The survey reported that 42 percent of staffing company CEOs and owners were women, up from less than 20 percent in 2020. Though the findings were promising, the data also revealed women’s ongoing underrepresentation in C-suite positions. Despite making up 66 percent of the internal workforce, women account for just 37 percent of board seats. Additionally, just 18 percent of female owners and CEOs work at large firms compared to 53 percent at small agencies. Still, the 20 percent increase over a two-year span confirms the industry’s rapid evolution.

Staffing Industry Analysts projects the U.S. staffing industry exceeded $212 billion in 2022 and expects the industry to grow by 6 percent in 2023.
