Being away from home isn’t easy. Adjusting to a new schedule, surroundings, and coworkers can be stressful and challenging. But for many Allied Healthcare professionals, traveling is a gateway to financial freedom and career achievement. They can explore diverse healthcare settings, earn above-average pay, and impact patients’ lives. The rewards are great, but navigating the complexities of finding the right assignments can be arduous. That’s why using a skilled recruiter is so important. By understanding your career goals, preferences, and qualifications, your MedPro Placement Guide can streamline your job search process, negotiate competitive compensation packages, and provide ongoing support throughout your travel assignments.

1st Time Travelers
Like any first-time experience, going out on assignment as a Travel Allied Healthcare professional can be stressful. That’s why our Placement Guides prepare Explorers and set realistic expectations. The most important step is the first, getting your feet wet. Leaving a full-time job and your family for a temporary position is tough. There are so many unknowns, but “it’s always better than expected,” reasoned MedPro Placement Guide George S.
Hot Jobs
The market is constantly changing and evolving. The hottest jobs right now include computed tomography (CT) technologist, physical therapist (PT), and respiratory care practitioner (RCP). MedPro has open assignments available in these specialties. Apply now. Not-so-hot specialties include medical laboratory technician (MLT) and surgical technologist (ST), but just like the weather, those conditions are likely to change. Florida and Illinois are the states with the most demand for Travelers.
Tips for Landing an Assignment
Competition can be fierce, so Explorers need to put on their best face for their interview. Here are some quick tips from George.
- Be adaptable. You’re not always going to get everything you want in an assignment.
- Have multiple submissions.
- Be persistent. Keep working with your recruiter.
- Trust the process.
- Build relationships (with other Travelers and managers) to network better in the communities where you travel.
- Communication: be open, honest, and transparent with your recruiter for the best results. We assume you are working with multiple recruiters.
Preparation

To a newbie, finding housing every few months may sound like a daunting task. It isn’t. Furnished Finder is specifically for Travelers providing listings, reviews, and their KeyCheck platform for rent payments. Additionally, it’s always a good idea to talk to Travelers who have worked in the area or those you will be working with and get their input on housing and the best neighborhoods to live in. If you’re still having trouble, MedPro is happy to help you get situated. If you’re staying in a hotel, be sure to call instead of booking online. You may get a discount rate through the hospital plus a discount for being a Traveler.
If you have a vehicle, take it with you. It will be much more expensive to take a Lyft or Uber or rent a car than to drive your own.
Traveling with Pets
Is your best friend coming with you? Travelers with pets should alert their recruiter ASAP so they can help them find pet-friendly housing and other necessities to ensure your furry loved one has a great experience as well. You’ll want to investigate local vets, possible dog walkers, and more to help tend to your pet’s needs. Some national resources include Care.com, the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters (PetSitters.org), and Rover.com.

What types of activities do you enjoy during your free time? Do you have children? When is your birthday?
Approximately 45 days before the assignment ends, your Placement Guide will reach out to see how you are doing and if you want to sign an extension or look for your next assignment.
