Job Responsibilities

The CVICU nurse administers medications, checks vital signs and alerts doctors if there are any significant changes in a patient’s condition. The CVICU nurse is a liaison between the doctors and the patients, looking out for the welfare of each patient and relaying important information to the patient’s family and friends. The key responsibility of the CVICU nurse is the daily care of patients, ensuring that each patient recovers comfortably.


Other duties of the CVICU nurse include administering care for patients following open heart surgery, treating and caring for heart transplant patients, and educating the patient’s family about the ongoing needs and care of the patient.

Candidates for the position should have an active RN license, a degree from an accredited nursing program, BLS and ACLS certifications, and at least two years of recent experience in an acute care CVICU setting.
