Respiratory Care Week: October 25-31, 2020

Each year, Respiratory Care Week honors respiratory therapists around the world for their high-quality efforts and vital roles in patient care. This year, the event takes on an unprecedented task in helping raise awareness in how to combat COVID-19 as well.

This year’s weeklong event runs from October 25-31, 2020.

In celebrating all healthcare professionals with respiratory specialties, standalone facilities and multi-hospital systems, all around the world, hold fundraisers, schedule activities and free respiratory checkups for possible cardiopulmonary disorders.

The American Respiratory Care Foundation (ARCF)

The ARCF is an organization that is dedicated to promoting respiratory health, via proper education and patient-centric, training activities and events. Each year, it dishes out student awards, research grants, achievement acknowledgments and international fellowships as well. You can donate HERE.

How COVID-19 Attacks Your Lungs

The novel coronavirus attacks the lungs, making it difficult to breathe, due to inflammation. This leads to numerous problems, like pneumonia, thus infecting the alveoli, which is dangerous as this is the area where blood exchanges oxygen and carbon dioxide.

Ultimately, patients can develop Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) or in many unfortunate cases, patients can lose their lives. It was reported that roughly 80% of people who have contracted the disease get mild symptoms, such as a dry cough or sore throat, but as the numbers continue to rise in both those affected and those who have died, COVID-19 affects everyone differently.

Thank You, Respiratory Therapists!

Respiratory therapists care for patients who have trouble breathing, due to conditions like, CRD and more common ones like, asthma. They also provide care to patients suffering from heart attacks, shock and even those who may have drowned. At MedPro Healthcare Staffing, we have placed hundreds of RRTs on COVID-19 testing and frontline assignments throughout the country.
